This combination is an overnight sensation that is cooked in the morning.

Ingredients

  1. 1 loaf Rhodes Bread, baked & sliced into 6 slices (day old)
    8 large eggs
    3-1/2 cups milk
    1 teaspoon vanilla
    1 cup sugar, divided
    1/4 teaspoon salt
    1 tablespoon cinnamon
    1 teaspoon nutmeg
    2-3 large tart apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
    1/4 cup butter

    Apple Cider Syrup:
    1 cup sugar
    2 tablespoons cornstarch
    1/8 teaspoon salt
    1 teaspoon cinnamon
    2 cups apple cider
    2 tablespoons lemon juice

Instructions

Place bread sliced in a 9x13-inch pan. Whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla, 1/2 cup sugar and salt. Pour half of liquid mixture over bread.

Arrange apple slices over bread and pour in the remainder of egg/milk mixture. Mix the remaining sugar with cinnamon and nutmeg and sprinkle over the apple slices.

Cover and refrigerate overnight or at least 4 hours. Before baking, remove cover, dot with butter.

Bake at 350°F for approximately 60 minutes or until knife inserted in the middle comes out clean. Serve warm with Apple Cider Syrup.

For syrup, mix dry ingredients in a heavy saucepan. Add cider and lemon juice. Cook over medium heat, stirring until thickened.
