Almond flavoring and nuts make this twisted masterpiece a show stopper for any dessert table.

Prep Time: 15 min (not including thaw time)
Bake Time: 20-25 min
Servings: 8-10
Skills: Advanced

  1. 12 Rhodes Yeast Dinner Rolls or 8 Rhodes Texas Rolls, thawed to room temperature
    1/2 cup butter, softened
    1/2 cup brown sugar
    1/2 cup flour
    2 teaspoons almond extract
    1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 1/2 cups chopped slivered almonds (walnuts or pecans may be substituted)

    Brown Butter Icing
    2 tablespoons butter
    1 cup powdered sugar
    2 tablespoons milk
    1/4 teaspoon almond extract

In a bowl, mix butter and brown sugar until fluffy. Beat in flour, almond extract and cinnamon until smooth. Stir in almonds. Cover and chill at least 30 minutes.

Spray counter lightly with non-stick cooking spray. Combine rolls together and roll into a 15x10-inch rectangle. Cover with plastic wrap and let rest while almond mixture is chilling.

Remove wrap and crumble filling evenly over the dough to within 1-inch of all edges. Roll up tightly, jelly roll style, starting with a long side.

With a sharp serrated knife, cut roll in half lengthwise. Turn each half so the cut side is facing up. Carefully twist halves together so cut sides can be seen. Pinch ends together. Place on a large, sprayed baking sheet. Cover with sprayed plastic wrap. Let rise 30-45 minutes.

Remove wrap and bake at 350°F 20-25 minutes. Cover with foil the last 5 minutes, if necessary, to prevent over browning. While warm, drizzle with Browned Butter Icing.

Browned Butter Icing:
Lightly brown butter in a small, heavy skillet over medium heat. Do not burn. Remove from heat and blend in powdered sugar, milk and almond extract until mixture is smooth.

I, by going to MANY dinners, memorials,(like today) cooking for elderly, disabled and blind ones, use MANY of YOUR recipes.I use either single serving items, OR twists that THEY can cut the piece to the size THEY want, and I get MANY THANK-YOU'S from them. However YOU used to give me ALOT MORE dessert or side bread recipes on my E-MAIL line, which you no longer do. Why? I now have used too many of the SAME things taking what I printed, or is published in YOUR book:"HOME BAKED FAMILY RECIPES WITH FROZEN DOUGH" Therefore have you forgotten me? I HAVE made THIS recipe above:ALMOND CRUMBLE TWIST-it did go over well yet the BEST ones I use are YOUR "CARAMEL APPLE TWIST", and "WALNUT TWIST! People LOVE this and ask MANY questions after it!!! YOUR " CREAM CHEESE RING" does good too. As I said I WANT and NEED: MORE  of YOUR recipes to make MORE of your items for this to make you even MORE famous to everyone. TODAY I HAD to take HOMEMADE items just like GRANNYS made because your are now wore out-so send me some more NEW DESSERT, or SIDE BREAD recipes PLEASE. Not only I but OTHERS will LOVE you! Thank-you!  Tammy Boyd
