Italian Effretes

Skill: Beginning Prep Time: 20 Bake Time: 15 Servings: 6-12


12 Rhodes Dinner Rolls
1 lb Italian Sausage or Ground Beef
1 small onion, diced
1 green pepper, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 can diced tomatoes Salt and Pepper to taste


Thaw dinner rolls according to package directions. Brown sausage (or ground beef) until nearly brown add onions, green pepper, garlic, and salt and pepper.  
Next add the can of diced tomatoes. Let simmer for 12 minutes. For small Effretes, roll out one dinner roll. For larger Effretes, combine 2 dinner rolls and roll out.
Roll them into circles and be sure not roll out too thin or they won't hold the filling.
When the meat mixture is cooked through add 1-2 Tablespoons of filling for the small size and 2-4 Tablespoons for the large size.
Place filling on left side, bring the right side over to create a pocket. Using a fork, seal the edges of the meat pocket. Set uncooked Effretes on foil lined baking sheet. Bake at 350 for 15 minutes.
