My husband loves Sandwiches and asked me to make him a yummy sandwich for lunch. Yep, that was as specific as he got. I wanted to make him something different and I remembered the Sandwiches we have in Mexico. We call them Torta’s. We fill them with anything from tripe or Carne Asada (Mexican skirt steak) to Ham, Turkey and Cheese. They are large, toasted, and always made with homemade bread. So, it was time for him to try my special Turkey and Cheese Torta made with awesome Rhodes bread. Let’s just say that he asked me to make him one for the next day. One more thing I should add, I made the bread the day before and left it until the next day’s lunch to prepare and toast. It was as fresh and wonderful as the day before. Thank you Rhodes!
Once your Rhodes Dinner Rolls are thawed, knead them into one big ball and try to shape it like a football. You will want to spray your baking tray and place your big roll onto it.
You will want to brush your roll with your egg.
Now let your roll rise until it is doubled in size.
Heat your oven to 350 degrees F. Bake your roll for 20 minutes. I actually made two at once and the time was perfect. Your roll will turn out a dark golden brown.
When you are ready to make your Torta, cut your bread in half so there is a top and bottom.
Now take butter and spread it on each side of your bread.
Take a large skillet and toast your bread with the butter side down until it is nice and toasty.
After toasting your bread, spread mayo on both toasted halves….. yep, right on top of your butter.
Now you can stack your Torta with Cheese and Turkey.
Feel free to put as much Turkey as you like.
Now you can add your lettuce and tomato. I don’t like tomatoes on my Torta’s but to each their own.
Add the top and Enjoy! I sure did.
