Texas Breakfast Roll Up

Another contest winning recipe for you to try at home. Click here for the full article.

Its no wonder this recipe won a Rhodes recipe contest! Its honestly delicious.

Here is what you will need:

Ingredients:

1 Loaf Rhodes™ Bread Dough, or 8 Rhodes Texas™ Rolls, thawed to room temperature
6 ounces bulk mild pork sausage
6 ounces bulk spicy pork sausage
1 1/2 cups chopped, button mushrooms
1/4 cup chopped onion
2 eggs, divided
1/2 teaspoon dried basil
1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1 1/4 cups grated mozzarella cheese

I always use the refrigerator when using Rhodes.  It's so convenient.  So, the night before I was going to bake the Texas Breakfast Roll Up I put a package of Rhodes Bread into the refrigerator overnight.  The next day when I was ready to bake I took  out the package of Bread.  (We needed some bread for the week so I put two of the loaves of bread in bread pans to rise.)

A delicious recipe for your family and guests.

I sprayed my countertop with some non stick spray.  Then started to roll the dough into a 12x16 inch rectangle.  It started to get a little tough to roll out. I stopped and covered the dough with plastic wrap. (went and took care of a load of laundry) came back to the dough and it rolled out easily.

Next  cover the dough with  plastic wrap and let rest. This will allow the dough to start to rise.

While its rising,  brown the  sausages in a skillet over medium heat until barely pink. (I was skeptical to use the spicy sausauge... but now I recomend it!)  Add mushrooms and onion. Continue cooking until mushrooms and onions are tender and sausage is completely browned. Place in a large bowl to cool.

In another bowl, beat one egg and add basil, rosemary, garlic powder and onion powder. Beat until well combined. Pour over the cooled sausage mixture. Add cheese and blend all ingredients.

Remove wrap from dough and spread sausage mixture over dough.

Next,  roll it up. (Jelly roll style)

Brush the very edge of dough with water and press to seal the edge. This will help to seal the edge while baking.  Place seam side down on a sprayed baking sheet.

Bake at 350°F 18-20 minutes. While baking beat the remaining egg in a small bowl. Remove from oven and brush with beaten egg. Return to oven for 5-10 minutes or until golden brown. Let stand for 10 minutes before cutting into slices.

This recipe is called Texas "Breakfast" Roll up...But this is such a great recipe and so hearty it could definitely be a dinner recipe as well!
