Reuben Pizza

If you are a reuben sandwich lover you will find this pizza perfect for you!

In the Rogers' house we LOVE Pizza! We are always experimenting with new ways and new ingredients. My husband's dream would be to have a brick pizza oven in the back yard oh' and to go to Italy of course.
We all know about Reuben Sandwiches but have you ever thought about a REUBEN PIZZA? Well, here at Rhodes we have.

Here is what you will need:
Ingredients:
6 Rhodes Texas™ Rolls or 9 Rhodes™ Dinner Rolls, or 1 loaf of Rhodes™ Bread ( I put the bag of rolls in the refrigerator before I left for the day)
1 cup sliced onion
1 tablespoon butter or margarine
1/4 cup Thousand Island dressing
2 cups grated Swiss cheese
8 ounces thinly sliced corned beef ( I got it from the Deli at the grocery store and just asked them to cut it thin)
1 cup sauerkraut, drained ( I also purchased this by the deli in a small sack)

Spray your counter lightly with non-stick cooking spray. We like to use a little flour and corn meal when we make pizza dough, that would work too.

Knead all the dough together into a ball. Roll it out to a 12-13 inch circle. Put the dough on a sprayed pizza pan or in our case we decided to use our pizza stone. If using a pizza stone, we placed the stone in the oven to get the stone nice and hot before we put the pizza on it. If using your pizza pan, poke the crust several times to avoid bubbles. Pre-bake your crust at 400 degrees for 5-10 minutes.

Saute the onions in 1 tablespoon of butter.

When your crust is ready spread the dressing on it. We used less then 1/4 cup.

Sprinkle 1/2 of your Swiss cheese on your pizza. The Swiss does add a little different surprise to your pizza. Add your meat, sauteed onions, sauerkraut and remaining cheese onto the pizza. We used a little less sauerkraut. Just do what you like, this is YOUR pizza.

We used our pizza paddle to slid the pizza onto our hot pizza stone. Bake at 500 degrees for 7-10 minutes.  If your stone is really hot the baking time will be less.

If you love a Reuben Sandwich, this is the pizza for you. It is a fun twist on the old original pizza. My youngest son LOVED it and ate all most half the pizza. I shared some with our friends and they really enjoyed the Rhodes Dough Crust. So if you are looking to try something a little different, why not try our Reuben Pizza. Until next time Happy Baking!
