PB&J Pull-Aparts

Treat the kids to a fun pull-apart featuring two of their favorites, peanut butter and jelly. Click here for the full article.

Hello my fellow bakers. It is hard to believe a month of summer has come and gone!  Are your kids driving you crazy with thier boredom? Have you found yourself pulling out your hair trying to think of something to keep them occupied for another day?

I have a solution for you.  Plan a play date/lunch date with your kids and their friends.  This PB & J Pull-Apart will satisfy the pickiest eaters and fill an afternoon with fun.  My sweet young girls (respectively 8 and 7)  absolutely enjoyed helping me in the kitchen with this project!

This is a really simple and fun recipe perfect for kids to learn and practice their cooking skills.

You will need the following ingredients:

2 tablespoons sugar

 1/3 cup creamy peanut butter

 ¾ cup jelly

Place 10  frozen dinner rolls into a gallon sized zippered container.  Set out on counter until thawed but still cold to touch..... or plan ahead and place in the refrigerator and have them thaw the night before you are planning to make the pull apart.

Preheat oven to  350º

Once the rolls are thawed,  cut each roll into four pieces. (Cut each roll in half then each in half again.)  Form into ball then roll each ball in sugar.  When you form dough into a ball don't roll the dough between the palms of your hands.  This warms the dough too much and can create pockets of air.  Tuck the corners together with your fingers.  Keeping the dough as cool as possible.

Arrange your sugared dough balls evenly on pie pan.

Cover with plastic wrap that has been sprayed with non stick cooking spray.

Measure out peanut butter and jelly. I used natural peanut butter.  I thought it would warm and drizzle better and a bit healthier too.  I also chose a strawberry jam because that is what my family prefers.  My kids thought that honey would be really good on this too.  We will try that out next time!  Mix it up and make it fun.

Warm the peanut butter up in the microwave until it is to a good pouring consistency. In a separate container warm the Jelly, or jam, until it is to a good consistency to pour too.  (About 40 seconds for each but each microwave is different)  Let both peanut butter and jellly cool slightly.

Pour the peanut butter evenly over the rolls.   Now pour the jam over the rolls.  Cover with plastic wrap.  Allow the rolls to rise till double in size.    (This is important, you want to have even coverage over each roll. This will allow the PB & J to get between each roll piece. The perfect bite!)

Remove the plastic wrap and place in the preheated oven.  Cook for 18 to 22 minutes at 350º .  I found that it took about 30 minutes for mine to be cooked all the way through.   I did place the pie pan on a cookie sheet which added to the baking time.  I didn't want the peanut butter and jelly in the bottom of my oven.  So..... fair warning.  Place a pan underneath the pie pan because it will probably overflow during baking.

My girls and I  really had a lot of fun making then enjoying this great treat together.  This is an awesome treat for young and old alike.  Sure to bond all those peanut butter fans out there.  YOU all KNOW who you are!  Plan a fun morning and afternoon together with just family or you can mix the friends in there too.  I will hang up the apron until we bake again!
