Kaiser Rolls

Kaiser Rolls are not only bakery-beautiful but quick and easy to make. Yvonne @ http://triedandtasty.com/ has incredible step by step instructions, just in time for turkey and ham lefto...

I have a thing for bread, so getting to blog for Rhodes has been a dream come true. I get to try new things with the rolls that I never realized I could have done or make new things I never thought to make. Sometimes a simple sandwich is all I need. As I was flipping through the Rhodes Home Baked Family Favorites Cookbook I ran across the recipe for the Kaiser roll. Immediately I thought "I have the perfect sandwich for that roll"!

What I love about the versatility with most of the Rhodes recipes is that I can easily scale them down. For my husband and myself I don't need to make a lot, so often times I only thaw half or a quarter of what the recipe says to accommodate for our two-person family. With these rolls especially it was easy to determine how many we needed for how many sandwiches we wanted. The rest was so simple you HAVE to try it!

These Rhodes Kaiser Rolls are the roll that accomodates any meal.

For the kaiser rolls you will need Rhodes Texas™ rolls (two dinner rolls per Texas roll), flour, egg, and sesame or poppy seed (if desired). For the sandwich you will need the following fixin's: turkey, bacon, avocado, tomato, Swiss cheese, lettuce & cranberry sauce with berries.

Combine two rolls, or in my case combine four dinner rolls. I didn't have the Texas rolls so I used the dinner rolls instead. I only wanted to make one sandwich so I used just enough rolls for one Kaiser.

Roll rope in flour. Tie each rope into an overhand knot. Bring one end of the dough over the top and tuck down into the middle. The rope will want to shrink up on you, but keep at it and you will get it to do what you want.

If desired, brush with egg (it will make it a pretty golden brown)

Sprinkle with sesame or poppy seeds. Cover with sprayed plastic wrap and let rise until double in size (I actually just baked it right at this point and it turned out great).
