Jalapeno Cheese Monkey Bread

One word to describe our savory Jalapeno Cheese Monkey Bread = DELICIOUS! Click here to see the full recipe

Monkey bread is so versatile. You can practically stuff anything in between it and it will be wonderful. I've recently discovered pickled jalapeno slices as a "can't live without" in our fridge. Lately I've been putting them on everything. So when I saw this recipe on Pinterest, I knew it could be adapted with Rhodes and I was eager to try it.

With only a few simple steps you will be on your way to spicy cheesy goodness. This could serve as an awesome appetizer, or even side to any kind of meal. It's best the same day so make it when you know you will be able to serve enough people to gobble it all up immediately. Otherwise, if you do have leftovers, make sure to place them in an airtight ziplock.

Get your goodies together: Rhodes Rolls, butter, shredded mozzarella cheese, pickled jalapeno slices, dried oregano, and garlic powder.

Preheat oven to 350ºF. Quarter each roll. I used my kitchen scissors which worked great.

Dip in butter.

Place in 9x5-inch loaf pan (I used slightly larger pan) sprayed with cooking spray. Top with 1/2 cup cheese, 1/4 cup peppers and 1/4 tsp. each garlic powder and oregano; repeat layers. Cover with remaining dipped Rhodes pieces, peppers and seasonings.

Bake 35 min. Top with remaining cheese; bake 5 to 10 min. or until cheese is melted. Cool in pan 10 min.; remove bread from pan. Serve warm.

Ingredients

12 Rhodes Yeast Dinner Rolls or 8 Rhodes Texas Rolls, thawed but still cold
3 tablespoons butter, melted
3/4 cup drained jalapeño slices, divided
1 1/2 cups grated mozzarella cheese, divided
3/4 teaspoon dried oregano, divided
3/4 teaspoon garlic powder, divided

Instructions

Cut the dinner rolls in fourths or the Texas Rolls in sixths. Dip 16 of the roll pieces in butter and layer in the bottom of a sprayed loaf pan.

Sprinkle dough with 1/2 cup cheese, 1/4 cup jalapeno slices, 1/4 teaspoon oregano and 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder. Dip 16 more pieces in butter, layer over first layer and sprinkle as before. Dip the last 16 pieces, layer and sprinkle as above but leave the cheese off.

Cover with sprayed plastic wrap and let rise until double. Bake at 350°F 20 minutes.

Remove from oven and sprinkle with remaining 1/2 cup cheese. Bake 5 minutes longer until cheese is melted. Remove from pan to cool and serve warm.
