I have to give credit to my husband for this recipe.  He's all about steak and he loves a good Philly Cheesesteak sandwich.  Recently he completely made dinner on his own for our family and I came to the table to see this lovely array of Homemade Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches made from Rhodes Bake N Serv Texas Rolls.

The soft, toasty bread filled with the savory steak, onions and peppers is a delight.  Rhodes Bake N Serv makes it easy once again!

We combined 2 Texas Rolls together to make the delicious buns.  Thaw the rolls as directed on the package until they are soft, but still cold.

Take 2 rolls and combine them together into one roll.  Shape it into an elongated bun.   Let rise again until they are double in size.  Bake at 350 for about 20 minutes until they are golden brown.

We created our Philly Cheesesteak mixture by sauteing thin steak strips, sliced peppers and onions with olive oil and minced garlic.  Salt and pepper to taste.  Very simple!

Fill the homemade buns with the steak and veggie mixture and then top it with your favorite cheese.  We used cheddar, but provolone and pepper jack are delicious too.  So good for anytime of the year!

Homemade Philly Cheesesteak

8-12 Rhodes Bake N Serv Texas Rolls (2 rolls makes one bun)

1/2 lb. to 1 lb. of beef flank steak or round steak, cut into thin strips

1 bell pepper, sliced into strips

1 onion, sliced

1 cloved garlic, minced

1 TB olive oil

salt and pepper to taste

8 slices of cheese--cheddar, provolone, pepper jack (use your favorite!)

Set frozen Rhodes Texas Rolls on a 9x13 pan, cover with plastic wrap and thaw as directed on the package.  Thaw the rolls until they are soft, but still cold.  Take 2 of the rolls and combine them together into one roll.  Shape it into an elongated bun.  Repeat this for all of the rolls, until you have the desired amount of buns.  Place them back on the pan.  Cover again with plastic wrap and let rise until double in size.

When the buns have risen, bake them at 350 for about 20 minutes, until they are lightly golden brown on top.

While the buns are baking, slice your beef, peppers, onions and garlic.  Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.  Saute the the beef strips until lightly browned.  Add salt and pepper to taste.  Add the peppers, onions, and garlic.  Saute all together until the vegetables are tender.

Slice open the buns and fill with the steak and vegetable mixture.  Top with 2 slices of cheese.  Let the cheese melt.  Serve immediately.

Makes about 4-6 sandwiches.
