Here's a quick and easy, fun recipe to throw together this weekend. Kids of all ages will love the delicious goodness hiding in this not-so-spooky spider. Rhodes blogger Mindy shows you...
If you are looking for an adorable, creepy, easy to make, edible decoration for your Halloween party, look no further. This spider s'more is perfect and so quick and easy to make. It is so fun and easy that my 8 and 11 year old had a blast helping me make them. This is what you'll need to get started:
- 6 Rhodes Warm-N-Serv™ Soft Dinner Rolls
- 3 tablespoons butter or margarine
- 1/2 cup coarsely crushed graham crackers
- chocolate frosting
- chocolate sprinkles
- M &M’s
- licorice laces cut into 4-inch lengths
Bake the Warm-n –Serve Soft Dinner Rolls at 325 for 12 minutes and let them cool. When they are cool, cut off the top and scoop out the inside like you would for a soup bowl.
Set them aside while you make the filling.
The filling consists of the butter, the marshmallows, and the graham crackers. First crush up the graham cracker into coarse chunks. We did it by putting in it in a baggie and hitting it in with a rolling pin. Then you melt the butter in a pan and add the marshmallows like you would for rice crispy treats, being careful not to burn it. After it is melted add the coarse graham crackers and mix well. While it is still hot pour into the hollowed out rolls and replace the lids.
Now comes the fun part where you can get a little or a lot messy. Frost the top half of the roll with the chocolate frosting. Then either sprinkle the chocolate sprinkles on it or try and keep the lid on and roll the roll in the sprinkles. I found that if I got some of the marshmallow mixture on the edges of the lid it helped “glue” it on the so there was not problem turning it upside down to roll it in sprinkles and it was much faster.
The marshmallow eyes were easy to cut if your knife was run under hot water and wet. The marshmallow does not stick at all and you are able to cut it however thin you want to cut it. Make sure that both sides are sticky. Stick one side to your roll and then stick an m&m on the other side for an eye. Repeat the process for the other eye. Choose another color m&m for the nose and put a dab of icing on it and stick it below the eyes. Take a wooden skewer and poke 8 holes in the roll where you want the legs to go and put in pre cut black licorice laces and form them into legs.
There you have it! My girls and I had so much fun putting these together. I hope you get a chance to try them too.

6 Rhodes Warm-N-Serv® Yeast Dinner Rolls
3 tablespoons butter or margarine
1/2 cup coarsely crushed graham crackers
licorice laces cut into 4-inch lengths
Bake rolls following instructions on package. Place on rack to cool.
When cool, slice off tops and hollow out to make a small bowl.
Place butter in a saucepan and melt. Add 40 marshmallows and continue cooking on low until completely melted*. Add graham crackers and combine well. Quickly fill each hollowed out roll with the marshmallow filling while it is warm (over fill just a little). Replace the roll tops.
Frost each one with chocolate frosting and cover with chocolate sprinkles. To make the eyes, cut slices off of a marshmallow, using a hot, wet, sharp knife. Add M&M’s to each eye and one for a nose. Make holes with a wooden skewer where legs attach and poke in the licorice pieces.
*Can be melted in the microwave using a large microwave safe bowl. Use 20 second intervals until completely melted and then add your graham cracker crumbs.
