True kitchen confessions: Sometimes I just haven't planned well enough to have time for thawing, rising and baking frozen dough. For last minute times like that, Rhodes has a great line of products called Warm-n-Serv.  I’ll tell you right now that my favorites are the Crusty Rolls. In just about 10 minutes you can have some nice and hot ‘chewy outside/soft inside’ rolls to complete your dinner.

Today’s recipe takes advantage of the convenience of the Warm-n-Serv rolls, but these little babies are made on the grill, so you won’t even have to heat up your house making them. Throw these on for a nice complement to your favorite grilled kabobs, chicken, or steaks. This is all you’ll need:

  • 6 Rhodes Warm-N-Serv™ Soft Dinner Rolls or Crusty Rolls, thawed
  • olive oil
  • fresh mozzarella cheese
  • fresh basil, slivered

First of all, cut your rolls in half. I let mine thaw a little first.

Lay them out then brush them with olive oil.

Then top each roll with some sliced fresh mozzarella. If you’ve never had fresh mozzarella, it’s quite a treat. A little pricey, but yummo!

Put those cheese-topped delectables on the grill on medium low heat until the cheese begins to melt.

In the mean time, slice up your basil. These pretty and savory green leaves came fresh from my garden. Take a big whiff. Can’t you just smell the heavenly fragrance of this member of the mint family? I decided to just cut mine up with the pizza slicer.

When the cheese is melted and the rolls crispy, remove them from the grill and sprinkle on the fresh basil.

Here’s my cute little Katie who was so excited to taste-test them for me.

This great idea gives me some other ideas for the grill. I am wondering if I could use the Crusty Rolls or the Soft White Dinner Rolls with maybe some cheddar cheese and bacon bits. I may be trying this tomorrow!

Thanks!
