Easy Shaped Rolls for Thanksgiving

Here's a little refresher of the best tips and tricks from the experts at Rhodes, just in time for Thanksgiving!

First things first roll bakers - before you buy the dough you want to check for these things:

  • Rolls or loaves should be separate, not stuck together
  • No Ice crystals in the bag
  • Dough should be frozen solid

Also, look at the date. The "best by" date is stamped either on the bag or the closure tab; make sure you use the product before that date.

One of the best tips is to put the dough in the refrigerator the night before to thaw. The next morning it is ready for you to shape or just place on a pan to rise.

One of the easiest ways to quickly to a bunch of rolls is to place 24 Texas rolls on a baking sheet. This way you end up with nice, soft pull-apart rolls that everyone loves. Here's the simple process:

Place frozen or thawed rolls on a baking sheet that has been sprayed with cooking spray. This is perfect because there are 24 rolls in a bag of Texas rolls.

There's not a picture here, but cover the rolls with sprayed plastic wrap and let them rise until double in size. Frozen rolls will take longer because they'll need to thaw first. If you need to speed things up, you can place the rolls in a warm oven (keep an eye on them!) If you need to slow things down, place the tray in the refrigerator.

This is what the rolls should look like when they are ready to bake:

Bake them at 350 for 15-20 minutes and presto! Don't those look amazing?

Now, if you're into a little more fancy, we have a plethora of choices for you! Well, maybe not a plethora, but eight different kinds of shaped rolls. {Does anyone know if 8 counts as a plethora?}

Once your dough is thawed (remember the night-before-fridge trick), just choose your favorite shape from our visual guide below. You can use either the Dinner Rolls or the Texas Rolls for any of these. Once shaped, cover the rolls with sprayed plastic wrap and allow to rise until double in size. Then remove the plastic wrap and bake at 350 for 15-20 minutes. That's it! No mixing or kneading required. And you've got something beautiful to put on your holiday table. Time for a happy dance :)
