Hello! It's Amber from Dessert Now, Dinner Later! One of my favorite things about the holidays, other than having time off of work to be with family and friends, is eating all of the good food that is shared! There is just something about food that brings people together, especially during the holidays, and this Chocolate Stuffed French Toast is perfect for Christmas morning! I bet you could even prepare the chocolate stuffed bread the night before, then whip up the batter and grill them in the morning.

The best part about this French toast is that there is butter and sugar in the batter, which makes the exterior crisp and caramelized, creating the perfect texture to counteract the soft, melty center on the inside.

Let's show you how to do it! You will need one loaf of Rhodes bread (baked and cut into 12 slices; ends removed), some chocolate hazelnut spread (nutella), eggs, milk, sugar, orange juice, butter, vanilla, and salt.

Chocolate Stuffed French Toast

Spread 1 Tablespoon of chocolate hazelnut spread between 2 slices of bread. Repeat with remaining slices.

Using a drinking glass, cut a circle out of the middle of each sandwich. This will also seal the edges of the sandwich.

Combine 3 beaten eggs, 1/2 cup milk, 1/4 cup sugar, 2 Tbsp orange juice, 2 Tbsp melted butter, 1/4 tsp vanilla, and a sprinkle of salt.

Ingredients

1 Loaf Rhodes Bread, baked as directed
6 tablespoons chocolate hazelnut spread
3 eggs, beaten
1/2 cup milk
1/4 cup sugar
2 tablespoons orange juice
2 tablespoons butter, melted
1/4 teaspoon vanilla
sprinkle of salt

Instructions

Slice the bread into 12 thin slices without end crusts. Spread 1 tablespoon chocolate hazelnut spread between 2 slices of bread making 6 sandwiches. The crusts will be cut off so you don't need to cover the bread completely.

Using a large drinking glass, cut a circle out of the middle of each sandwich. This will also seal the edges of the sandwich.

Combine beaten eggs, milk, sugar, orange juice, melted butter, vanilla and salt. Heat frying pan to medium heat and spray with non-stick spray. Dip sandwiches in the batter, coating both sides and cook on both sides until nicely browned.
