Cheesy Twisted Garlic Breadsticks

Your kids are going to love making these hands on Cheesy Twisted Garlic Breadsticks.

Cold winter days are the perfect time to hunker down at home and do things with the kids. One of my favorite things to do is get in the kitchen and make something. What could be more fun for kids than twisting and rolling dough and then dunking it into butter and cheese? Aside from eating your tasty treats that is?

These Cheesy Twisted Garlic Breadsticks start with Rhodes Dinner Rolls. Be sure to take out the amount that you want to make the evening before and place in the refrigerator so they thaw.

First assemble all of your ingredients. You can use any sort of cheese that you like and if you do not like garlic and herbs than skip it, the breadsticks will still be delicious.

Have mom or dad melt the butter in the microwave while you measure and pour the cheese into a shallow bowl.

Spray counter lightly with cooking spray. Take each ball of dough and roll it on the counter so that it makes a long rope, then roll each end in the opposite direction a few times, pick up both ends, pinch the ends together. The dough will twist together itself.

Dip each twisted breadstick into the butter and then into the cheese, lay the breadsticks onto a pan that has a baking liner or has been sprayed with cooking spray. Then take your garlic and herb mixture and sprinkle lightly on each breadstick.

Set pans aside to raise for 30 minutes to an hour and then bake in a preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until the breadsticks are golden brown. Have mom or dad remove them from the oven wearing oven mittens and let cool.

Enjoy these tasty Cheesy Twisted Garlic Breadsticks with your favorite dipping sauce, with a big bowl of soup or even pasta!

12 Rhodes Dinner Rolls

1/2 cup butter, melted

1/2 cup parmesan cheese or a mixture of cheese that you like

mixture of 1/2 tsp. of garlic powder, 1/4 tsp. dried oregano, 1/4 tsp. dried basil

The night before: Put the frozen rolls in a plastic bag. Leave them in the refrigerator overnight or on the counter to thaw for about 2 hours. The rolls should be thawed but still cold.

Melt the butter in a shallow bowl and set aside. Place the parmesan cheese in another shallow bowl and set it aside as well. Make a mixture of garlic powder, basil, oregano in a small bowl and set aside too.

Roll each dough ball into a 10 inch rope, then roll each end 3 or 4 times in the opposite direction. Hold both ends up and pinch together, the dough will twist itself. Roll the twisted rope into the melted butter and then roll in the cheese. Lay the breadstick onto a lined or sprayed pan and sprinkle with garlic/herb mixture.

Cover the rolls loosely with plastic wrap. Let the breadsticks rise 30 minutes to an hour or until the rolls are twice as big.

Preheat the oven to 350. Then remove the plastic wrap and bake the breadsticks for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown. Remove the pan from the oven with oven mits and let cool slightly. Serve these tasty breadsticks with marinara sauce for dipping.
