Apple Cinnamon Roll Pie

Apple Cinnamon Roll Pie - the perfect fall combo!

Apple Cinnamon Roll Pie

This Apple Cinnamon Roll Pie is a unique twist on traditional apple pie that uses Rhodes Cinnamon Rolls as the crust.  The apples perfectly sweet and the crumb topping is out of this world!

Apple Cinnamon Roll Pie

Start by coring a slicing/dicing 7-8 cups apples.  Our favorite varieties for baking are honeycrisp and granny smith apples.  Apple Cinnamon Roll Pie

Add in the cinnamon and sugar and toss to coat.  Try to resist eating all the cinnamon-y apples at this point so that you'll have some left for the pie.Apple Cinnamon Roll Pie

Flatten 4 thawed cinnamon rolls in the bottom of a lightly greased 9 inch pie plate.  Unroll the 5th cinnamon roll and flatten in around the edge.  Apple Cinnamon Roll Pie

It should look something like this.  It won't look pretty or perfect, but that's ok--it's gonna taste great and be covered with apples and other goodness.  Apple Cinnamon Roll Pie

Pour your cinnamon and sugar coated apples on top of the flattened cinnamon rolls.  Apple Cinnamon Roll Pie

Make your crumb topping my combining brown sugar, flour, and softened butter.  Mix with a fork or a pastry blender until small crumbs form.

Spread crumb topping evenly over apples.Apple Cinnamon Roll Pie

Bake as directed--20 minutes uncovered and 30 more minutes covered lightly with foil.  Once the pie has had a chance to cool for a few minutes, drizzle some icing from the included packet over the top.  Serve and enjoy!  Apple Cinnamon Roll Pie

 Apple Cinnamon Roll Pie

Prep Time: 30-45 min (not including thaw time)

 Bake Time: 50 min

Servings: 8

Ingredients

5 Rhodes Cinnamon Rolls, thawed

7-8 cups apples, peeled, cored and thinly sliced (honeycrisp and granny smith are some of our favorite varities for baking)

1/4 cup sugar

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1 frosting packet, included with rolls

Crumble topping:

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup flour

1 cup brown sugar

1 tablespoon coarse sugar, if desired

Instructions

Place 4 cinnamon rolls, next to each other, in the bottom of a sprayed 9 inch pie pan and press flat until they cover the bottom and start to go up the sides. Unroll the 5th roll and press it flat around the sides of the pan, covering as much of the sides as possible (this will be a little bit messy).

Combine apples, sugar and cinnamon well in a microwave safe bowl. [Optional step for softer apples and to avoid soggy crust: Microwave for 3 minutes, stopping to stir every 30 seconds or so.  Drain any excess moisture from the apples.]  Pour the apples into the crust. Make the topping by combining the butter, flour and brown sugar until crumbly. Sprinkle over the apples. Sprinkle the coarse sugar over the top of the crumble, if desired. Bake at 375° for 20 minutes. Cover with foil and bake another 30 minutes. Remove from oven, cool slightly and drizzle with frosting.
