There are still a few weeks left of Winter and I don't know about you but my family and I still love our Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup!  It's Kami from Sweet Charli and today I am sharing an easy way of doing grilled cheese sandwiches, with a little kick.  I hope you enjoy our Ranch Grilled Cheese Braided Bread recipe.

One reason I really love this recipe is because I can prepare it in advance and then just reheat it when it's time to eat.  I won't be standing at the griddle waiting for our individual sandwiches to be ready.  With this recipe, I just stick it in the oven and while its baking I can cook my soup at the same time.

Another reason why this recipe rocks is because it has a hint of ranch when you bite into it.  This takes it up a notch from your normal grilled cheese sandwich.

Here's how we make it...

On a clean, greased surface, thaw out a loaf of Rhodes white bread until soft, but still cold.  Grease the surface and roll out the dough.  Follow the steps pictured below and be sure to check out the full recipe at the end of this post:

This is so easy to do, it literally takes less than 5 minutes!  After the dough is braided around the cheese, before I pop it into the oven, I like to brush some egg wash on it so that when comes out of the oven, the top is golden brown and a little crisp. After brushing on the egg wash, I sprinkle with sea salt.

After baking, simply slice the bread into slices that are perfect for dipping in your favorite soup!

Ranch Grilled Cheese Braided Bread

Servings: 10-12 | Skills: Intermediate | Prep Time: 30 min (not including thaw time) | Bake Time: 20-25 min

Ranch Grilled Cheese Braided Bread

Rhodes White Bread Dough (1 loaf)
2 T cream cheese
½ T ranch dressing dry mix
6 slices square cheddar cheese
1 egg
sea salt


Thaw out bread dough until soft but still cold, about 3 hours. On a clean and greased surface, roll out dough into a large rectangle. With a pizza cutter, cut 1” strips on a diagonal on each side into the center, but leave about a 3-4” gap in the center.

Spread a layer of cream cheese down the center of your dough. Sprinkle with dry ranch mix over the cream cheese. Layer the cheese slices on top, slightly overlapping one another. Begin braiding the 1” strips from the top down to the bottom. Seal the bottom.

Lightly whisk one egg in a bowl. Brush the egg mixture over top of the braided bread. Sprinkle with sea salt.

Bake at 350 degrees about 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove from the oven and cut into slices. Serve with your favorite soup.
