This festive pizza is perfect for any Fourth of July party or just for fun at home. Here's all the ingredients you will need to make these edible stars and stripes.
Rhodes Patriotic Pizza
16 Rhodes™ White Dinner Rolls or 11 White Texas Rolls, thawed to room temperature
1 cup pizza sauce
Yellow peppers - I used yellow and orange
5 string cheese
To get started, spray a cookie sheet with non-stick spray, place frozen rolls on the sheet and cover with sprayed plastic wrap. Let them thaw to room temperature.
Flags aren't circles, so the first step is to combine the rolls, kneading them until smooth and roll them into a 12" x 18" rectangle.
Normally, I would say to spray the surface you are rolling on with some non-stick spray first, but I rolled mine out on a silicone sheet/mat which made it easy to shape the dough - don't spray first. The dough kind of grips the mat, so it doesn't fight you when you're trying to make it stay in shape, plus it's the same size as the cookie sheet, so if you take it to the edges, the size is perfect! Not to mention that you can easily transfer it to the cookie sheet to bake, which is the next step. Cover with the same plastic wrap you covered the rolls with to let them thaw, and let the dough rest while you are cutting the peppers and cheese, about 15-20 minutes.
Pre-heat your oven to 400°F. Cut the yellow peppers in half. If you have big peppers, you can cut multiples out of one side. Mine were small, so it took more peppers.
I used a small star cookie cutter, but you can free-style cut the stars if you don't have one. One thing I did notice is that if you cut from the inside part of the pepper, you will get cleaner cut edges.
Next, you will be cutting the string cheese. Cut into fourths, lengthwise.
I like to buy a little extra to snack on while cooking the pizza. Take the plastic wrap off the dough and start poking the dough with a fork.
Poke it a bunch. This will help prevent the crust from bubbling up when you bake it. Place crust in your pre-heated oven and bake for 8 - 10 minutes or until lightly browned.
Remove from oven. Spread the pizza sauce over the top, staying a little away from the edges. I like my pizza with extra sauce, so I add a little bit more than the recipe called for. But it's your pizza, so put as much or as little of these ingredients on.
Arrange the stars on the upper left corner...
...then line up the string cheese...
...and bake an additional 5 - 8 minutes or until the cheese starts to melt. Now all you have left to do is enjoy. Have a Happy 4th!

Cut 1-2 inch stars out of the yellow peppers and cut each string cheese into fourths, lengthwise.
